The reason or inspiration behind my first paper:

The main ideal of my paper was to understand that churches are not so traditional anymore and there are different and not so stuffy, but the church is a place where you can feel comfortable and relax like a place of business almost.  We have a perception in our head of how things are supposed to be and sometimes we move away from that because of it and as the world changes so does the things in it.

Formal Paper 1

The most profound and inspirational educational experience comes from my church and learning about the culture of our church.  Emmanuel Apostolic Church is an organization that is striving to build a healthy church culture in the Bremerton community.  As the church begins to examine all their church systems and values, identify and make changes in leadership roles, and bridge the generation gaps, through on-going communication, educational trainings and programs with fellowship they will be able to develop leaders that can make a difference in the Kitsap County.
Emmanuel Apostolic Church was founded by Bishop Lawrence Ray Robertson and the late First Lady Opal Robertson over 35 years ago.   Our church is presently located at 1023 6th Street which is near downtown Bremerton.   Emmanuel is a very vibrant and passionate church that is committed to serving people from all walks of life.  Our focus is to create positive leaders, become role models, and to fulfill our purpose in life.  Through growth over the past 35 year we have been able to employ over 20 workers and anyone who attends usually become a volunteer for life. We value the Men and Women who volunteers at Emmanuel Apostolic Church!  Our church organization is made of 85% African-Americans, 10% Caucasian and about 5% Hispanic.  We are considered a military church culture because our church is less than a mile near the Puget Sound Navy Base.  Our membership consists of people from all over the world who made the decision to live in the Washington area.  As we strive to build a healthy church in the Bremerton community, we have learned that many people stay because they have felt the genuine love; it’s a place where they could raise their families with the EAC values.   One of our church values is to inspire everyone who is part of the organization.  As a healthy church, we do a great job at identifying and connecting with the needs and interest of the people who attends.  Our Church Mission Statement is: Accepting the will of God to make disciples of all ethnicities, through the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, knowing that this Gospel requires excellence in every area of one’s life, therefore we focus on Worship, Biblical Education and Fellowship to achieve the Excellence!
Our church has over 250 members and the 20 employed workers.  Our EAC workers, works in the areas of our Child Care which has a Director, a cook, and five classrooms with two teachers in each room.  Our Maintenance crew consists of two people that are paid staff that are our grounds keepers; they take care of the outdoors plants, tree, clean up any debris around the church, and fix any maintenance problems that might occur. We also have a Housekeeping staff person that makes sure the inside of our church is clean and sanitized daily.  Our Administrative Assistance makes sure that our Bishop needs are met and keeps up with his calendar.  She also filters any information that goes out or comes in to ensure that the people know what is going on or if any changes are made to our church calendar.  She also helps with the flow of the services each week.  In our music department we have one paid musician that provides weekly practice and plays for all of our services.  We have just recently hired a Youth Coordinator that has one paid staff the helps keep our youth building clean daily.  The Youth Coordinator writes community grants for youth activities, and opens the youth center daily as she carries out youth programs.  As a new employer, my job will be Emmanuel’s new Communication and Planning Director.  I will create and provide an on-going communications system within every department, as well as monitor the services each sub-groups are providing services for.  My job will focus on ensuring that proper planning and to assist in any conflict resolution that may occur in each department. I will meet with each department head monthly so that I will know that it is running as smoothly as possible.  My goals will be to make sure everyone has been given an opportunity to share their skills, ideas, and stay connected so the church can continue to grow as leaders.  I have learn the skills of my job just by grow and studying the things at my church.  Now I am furthering my educational experience by getting my degree with Olympic College.
As new members join our church family, they are encouraged to attend a new member’s class for an eight weeks course on how our church operates and understands our mission statement.  If they are not aware of their gifts or talents that they have, then one of the ministers will help them to define or identify their gift or talents so they can begin working or volunteer in a particular area of ministry.
The culture of Emmanuel Apostolic Church organization is best described as a culture that is creating community leaders.  Every church leader must understand that every church has a culture either by design or by defaults.  Our church culture is defined by our Bishop, Lawrence Ray Robertson and the EAC family.  One of the major focuses was to cultivate a church culture that listens to everyone’s ideas, rather than ignore or put them down.  Emmanuel Apostolic Church also creates a culture that values the work that the men and women do within the organization.  We have built stronger families, community and church because of these value systems.  Our cultural values and beliefs reflect our teachings and in the community, we are respected by many because of this family lifestyle. In our church, we have created a cultural of “team approach” in order to become effective leaders.
In our church, we have developed various ministries which are the children’s ministry, youth ministry, and young adults; now called the 360 group.  We also have a Senior Citizen ministry.  Within all of these ministries there are sub-ministries or sub-cultures that consist of smaller groups working on the usher board, participating in the music ministry or drama, doing the work of a Deacon or Minster, working in the Audio Visual Department, or you can be a member of the Sisterhood or Brotherhood Department.  We are mixed with various ages which at times can become very difficult or challenging as we are bridging the generation’s gap.  We also have different families that have been a member for a long time, and then a new member comes with their set of cultural values that have either been passed down from their previous church or their family.  The generation gaps which are the age difference or new members verses the old members could have a breakdown in communication or began to create their own cultural environment if they are not having on-going communicating or not understanding the different styles of communication.
In conclusion, our church will continue to make changes in order to develop leaders in the culture.  I do feel as long as we keep growing and learning as a church and a business then more people will learn and our younger kids will be educated.  This will be a growing and ongoing learning experience.  Learning can happen anywhere and in my church is where I found a great educational experience.

The propose of Education Narrative

In today’s society a lot of people don’t know how churches work as far as the business stand point of things.  I plan on informing you on how that works for my church from the knowledge and data information that I know and have.   Sometimes when you are informing your reader about the subject in which you are writing you don’t know how much they know or do not know.  The thing that I like about having these class discussion in class is at least I am aware of what everyone is doing and how much knowledge they have on my subject at hand.  I also like having the group discussion because sometime other people can give you a better ideal of your paper.   With us having the class discussion I am very aware that giving as much information on my paper / in my paper is going to give me the best paper that I can write.  So I will stay committed to my goal of informing my reader with a entertain twist to it because I do not feel like a paper should be boring and not interesting to read.  Not persuading you an anyway shape or from unless you want to start you own church.

Benjamin vs Malcolm

The Benjamin Franklin and the Malcolm X papers are similar because they both are narratives.   Benjamin Franklin paper sounds like a child is writing or narrating his story and how he was raised, where Malcolm X is a paper about when he was an adult.  Malcolm is talking about an experience in life on how he made it through jail.  Where in the story about Benjamin Franklin is talking about him growing up and his significant experience in life.  Benjamin Franklin is talking about his writing skills and how he made it through that, things that he read.  Also in the beginning of Malcolm X reading there was a little synopsis about him, were Benjamin Franklin dived right into the story.  I did find Malcolm X story more interesting and related able to me.  The writing skills where so different in the since that Malcolm X is more mature.   Benjamin Franklin did have a love or want for reading and that is somewhere in life I want to be.  I do need to read more for my own kid’s sake, at least they can see me and then they will want to.  Reading both of the papers, I know will help me with my paper.

Homework Pre-writing in the past

Pre-writing papers
There are a lot of prewriting skills that I have used in the past as far as my writing goes.  However since I have been in college I have not used anything.  If I were to use a pre-writing skill I would use the mapping because I feel like it will get all my ideal and thoughts out.  Even the planning and free writing is something I would use now.  The reason that is, is because I just need to get my ideals out and free writing is a way of getting you topic out and stay focus.  I don’t find writing hard for me as far as organizing my thoughts, I just find keeping the paper interesting is what I want to do and sometimes can be a challenge.  Working in this English class is helping me through the rest of my college career because papers are so important and a most in college.  So have these skills to keep the ideals following or help with the different ways that I write my paper is important.  Also keeping in mind about the body of the paper so the paper can flow the right way is important too.

cubing in class about my paper

My Church Experience

Describe it:
My church is located on 6th street in Bremerton, It has go through several remodel to keep it updated and interesting so visitor can keep coming.  When you walk into the church you have the Lobby and then you go straight into the sanctuary.  The sanctuary is where you would go to hear the word of God, to feel a worshiping experience and a place where you can be at peace with yourself and God.

Compare it:
If I were to compare my church to other churches, I would say that we have a good time very relax with strong traditional ways not judgmental and all-around good time.  I feel like when you compare churches you judge and at a church that is the last thing you would want people to do is judge you.  However I would compare it to and older church in the since of the song choice the way we do announcement is much modernized and how the Pastor preacher and or teaches compare to and older church.

Apply it:
I feel like in a church or the church that I grow up in they teach you everyday lesson.  That’s why you would take the time to apply the lesson that you are taught and giving by your Pastor.  When you are giving things at school on your job or in your church and take the lesson in for what it is worth and then you go with it by applying it.  I feel like church gives you a foundation to stand on and can make you a better person if you listen believe and apply the thing or tools that are given to you.

Argue for it:
I am going to argue for church because I feel like everyone should visit a church once in their lifetime.  I don’t think church should be force upon you or if you don’t go make you feel like a bad person but I do feel like the religious part of it gives you something to hold on to.  Today in this world you need that in order to make it day to day because with all the bad thing that are happen and all the terrible mishap you need something to hold on too.  If you are going to cling to something let it be positive and not something that can’t hurt somebody else.  Now, let me be clear all churches are not perfect, but neither is people and when we get that understood we will be alright.  You have to find one that makes you happy and a church where you can feel good in.  I do believe that can happen because some of great leader come from church backgrounds.  Martin Luther King Jr. is a good example of a great leader who came from a church and people listen to when he was trying to make change.

Argue point of view

Swim Suits:
Swim Suits come in all shapes and size.  I am here to argue the point of swim suits,  I thinks the best point to argue is does the Miss America; and all the other beauty pageants need the swim suit competition to stay alive…..
While it makes for interesting TV. I don’t think so because who cares what a women looks like in there swim suit.  They say it to show the confidence and the strength of a woman but does a two piece really show the confidences and the strength of a woman.  I though just being who we are as women should be enough.  I mean when the president is being elect, we don’t ask to see him in his swim wear in order to better judge his strength as the President?  No, because it really doesn’t matter.  I think wearing a swim suit is your own confident level and should not be judge on how little it is.  Now of days if you are watching TV you even see the little girls wearing them on shows like little honeyboo or toddler and tiaras.  When they go completion what is that really teaching those little girl besides looking good in your swim wear.  Swims wear just another way for people in today society to exploit women’s body.

Confetti

Confetti:
Confetti is small pieces of paper that is used to decorate parties.  It comes in all shapes and sizes, some people even use recycled paper as confetti.  You see most confetti at kids parties and wedding.  Today confetti as gotten modern by putting years for example 2013 on it or making it into graduation hats, baby bottles and almost anything you can think of it is confetti.  It is very hard to clean up or get rid of when you are having a party and so could compare it to glitter.  Confetti is just one more thing to add to the party and to have a good time with, especially when you get all the different colors that it can come in and most people like to by the bright color of the confetti to add to their parties.   Kids love it the most and it would not be a party without the little and I mean little joys of paper/plastic confetti.

In class on the reading

Malcolm X reading: eng. 101

A time where I have learn something bases on a motivation beyond formal education and something that I can use for my paper is my church experience.  Growing up in church some people may think that you can only get a Christian education or religion experience from church.  However church can teach you about how to run a business, how to act when it comes to working with your boss or other co-worker, and how to deal with everyday situation in a calm and respectful matter.  In my paper I want to talk about how the business side or other indented in the church are important in order to make it run smoothly.
I feel with Malcolm X he read and educated his self because he wanted to get out of jail and educate “his people”.  Malcolm X wanted the African American culture to be as educated as he.  Malcolm X was not afraid to share his knowledge and understanding for the things he read.  I feel like in a church setting it should be the same way, the Pastor educates himself gives you the knowledge to be motivated and implements in your everyday life.  In the reading, like Malcolm X when you are in the beginning stages of learns it can be frustrating but through the frustrations is the motivation to learn.

Group Response on what must you do on Paper #1 to get an “A”

Make sure that there are at least 1200-1500 words. Our narrative essay should be on a personal significant educational experience. Make the essay as general as possible for the readers and try to direct your essay to a wide audience. Our essay can be an informal paper, may use I and you and doesn’t need a thesis statement.  Make sure to provide detail examples on your experience. Show a step by step process of your personal experience and how it affected your life. No matter the topic, try to make sure the essay is easy to read and interesting.  Make sure to have it typed in MLA style, which is provided in the back of “Writing Simplified” on page 93. Turn it in on due date or 7 days after due date. Make your paper convincing   for the audience. Since this essay is a personal paper make sure to use personal experiences and know that a work sited page is not needed.
Our group has a wide range of ideas on what we are writing about. Karla is considering writing about how her boarding school showed her structure and the pros and cons of this. Kelsey is writing about how her French teacher in high school stood up for her and showed her how not to cast off teachers, and understand they are actually supportive and considerate towards students. Tiffany is thinking about writing on how her church shows her how to grow and learn as a Christian woman. Josie decided to write about how her 2 year old is showing her patience and how to adapt to imperfect situations.

When reading both articles Feross Aboukhadiejeh and Joshua J. Romero, I liked Feross better.  I felt like his was more relatable and interesting, I was able to read through it with no problem.  Joshua was long and boring.  I also like the example Feross gave and how he started when he was just a kid doing something he loved.   I understood Feross article more in the since of making and getting your website out there with using the buzz words so that people will want to connect to you site.  His website was a step by step on how to do it yourself, that’s what I got from reading his blog.
As far as this relating to the essay we are going to write for class, I feel like these articles help me learn more about how to set up website and make my blog interesting to get people or my classmates to read it.  I do however understand the ideal and direction you want me to go into with taking it step by step and making the paper something that everyone wants to read.  Guiding me in the right direction with better articles could help me with my essay a little bit more.
